Love your tips, I am blessed to have friends from AIESEC (my former student organization) all over the world and I usually ask them as well... the cookie trick is a must and AirBnB/ B&Bs are my go-to-place as well, some of them offer to "cook for you", I've made the best travel experiences this way and made new friends in foreign places...
