The Subscription Economy Trap
Successful companies of the subscription economy will tell you subscriptions are a great way to build a business: You have recurring revenue streams, customers are locked in, and it’s easy to scale. But what they don’t tell you is that the subscription economy can be a trap: For the customers!
In the past you could purchase your Microsoft software pack, nowadays it’s no longer possible, you’re being pushed into subscription sign-up and you are getting the most recent updates if you like them, need them, or not!
In many cases, customers are worse off in the long run because they’re locked into services at recurring costs that they may not even use frequently. And as these companies grow, they often start sacrificing customer service and quality to keep up with demand.
So before you sign up for any new subscription service, make sure you think about whether it’s something you’ll use in the long term.
Otherwise, you might just be falling into the subscription economy trap.
The Rise of the Subscription Economy
The subscription economy is becoming an increasingly significant part of the marketing landscape and could potentially revolutionize existing structures of buying and selling goods and services.
